How to undo a Fixed Assets disposal

September 29th, 2011

Your FA accountant has just performed a disposal and posted the batch.  Unfortunately it was for the wrong group of assets.  Is there an easy way to undo this disposal?  Yes!  Read on to find out how.

After performing the asset disposal, a Z-batch gets generated.  It must be posted to the GL, even though you may have realized that some assets were disposed in error.  Make sure not to DELETE any entries in the batch, or else you will have to create manual JE’s to recreate the disposal batch.  The procedure is:

  1. Post the Z-batch to GL
  2. Drill-in to the Z-batch via p0011, and void the desired entries
  3. Re-post the same Z-batch
  4. Edit the Asset, and clear the Disposed Status and Dispose Date fields
  5. Validate that the asset is back to normal

Below are step by step instructions to give you more detail and display the process from start to finish:

Asset 1004 is about to be disposed.  Review the balances via Cost Summary screen before its disposed:

Perform the disposal:

Review the Asset Master.  Note Disposal Code and Disposal Date fields filled in:

Review the Z batch:

Post the batch and review R09801 report:

Review the Asset’s balances for the current period via Cost Summary screen.  Notice how all balances are reversed and zeroed-out:

Drill-in to the Z-batch and take the row exit to void entries:

Post the Z-batch again.  Make sure that R12800 was executed as well – it brings the GL balances back to FA.  If R12800 did not run, you will have to use ‘Revise Unposted Entries’ to bring the GL balances back to FA.

Drill-in to the Asset Master, and clear out Disposal Code and Disposal Date fields.

Review Asset Balances via the Cost Summary screen.  Notice that balances are back to where they were before the disposal.  You are done!
